Spring 2014 Hair Trends

With spring just around the corner, we’re all looking at the trends hitting the catwalks of fashion week.  Every new season brings new hair styles – from poker straight to mermaid waves, to accessorizing ponytails and updo’s.

The bob
The bob has been one of the most popular hairstyles over the last few months. Layers were kept at one length and cut to just above the shoulders. The trend is continuing into spring this year with both straight and wavy styles cropping up on celebrities and bloggers alike. This season the bob gets reinvented again with choppy fringes and the bob going even shorter.
Wet look hair
Love it or hate it, wet look hair is in the season and fresh off the catwalks of Gucci and Mulberry. We’re talking centre partings that are sleek – keeping the wet look to the top third of the hair and the natural texture on the bottom two thirds.
Poker straight
If you’re opting for straight hair this season, then make sure it’s poker straight. This season it’s all about straight and sleek without a kink in sight. Play around with partings to give a different look each time or by pinning the front section back.
This style will work with any length hair – rock a sleek bob with long layers, or long hair without bangs for a perfect take on the poker straight style.
Spring braids
Our favourite braids are back again and we never tire of this style. Whether you prefer a sleek braid or a messy one, there’s a style for every occasion and every outfit. Fishtail braids (neat or messy), milk maid braids, an elegant French braid, a halo braid or styles that combine the mermaid waves with some boho braids.
While beach waves were the style of last spring and summer, this year the waves are taking more of a softer, romantic style. Take inspiration from mermaids – long and soft without the messiness of beach waves. This style works best on long hair, so if your hair is on the shorter side try hair extensions to get long wavy hair. Ensure that they’re 100% human hair so that they blend effortlessly with your own hair – use a curling wand to curl the extensions for a completely natural look.
Side partings
Last year it was all about the middle parting with long bangs and beach waves. This season it’s the deep side parting. A top tip for finding the perfect side parting is to place your finger or tail comb where the arch of your eyebrow is and trace it through your hairline.
The updated ponytail
Ponytails aren’t just for the younger generation – update your ponytail with accessories for spring. The super low ponytail from the catwalk is poker straight and positioned at the nape of the neck. Finish the ponytails with accessories such as black ribbons or metal cuffs.
