How to Get Summer Waves and Beach Hair

When it comes to summer hair, there’s nothing like gorgeous beachy waves to really get you in the spirit. From top models like Gigi Hadid, to reality star Lauren Conrad, California’s beach babes have summer waves on point. Here’s how you can recreate their look, minus taking a quick dip in the Pacific Ocean:

Have your hair cut
Beachy waves can be created on any length hair, so don’t be put off if you have a shorter style. Having your hair cut with multiple layers, regardless of the length, makes creating beachy waves much easier as the hair is lighter with more texture to it than a one length style. Ask for lots of different length layers putting in and don’t be afraid to have some shorter pieces around the front to frame your face.

Sea Salt Spray
The original and best route to authentic summer beach waves is sea salt spray. It tends to work best on hair that already has a bit of a kink, enhancing the natural waves that already exist. Spritz on to damp hair before bed and curl strands around your fingers to tousle the hair. Being messy and careless with your scrunching is crucial to create the desired effect. If you’re wanting super waves, loosely plait a few large strands then sleep in them, Capital Hair and Beauty texturizing products also work well for a more tousled look.

For those with naturally straighter hair, it will probably take a little bit more than salt spray to create your ideal waves. Using straighteners, you can create gorgeous beachy waves in no time. Depending on how big you want the waves to be, divide your hair into sections, twizzle the sections around your fingers to create a twist then run the straighteners down over the sections. This tends to work better with smaller sections so if you’re not seeing results try dividing the sections in half and repeat.

One of the best ways to get a sun kissed beachier look when you’ve got waves is to get highlights. A little bit of blonde and caramel shades through the main body of your hair really lifts it with different tones adding more texture and creating a much more summery vibe. If you don’t want to go for something as permanent as highlights, try something like a toner or adding some lemon juice to your hair to lift it a little.
By following these tips, you’ll be able to create the perfect summer waves in no time ready for hitting the sands this summer.
