Planning A Family Break To Exmoor With A Little One In Tow

Family breaks are important; they give you and your family some much-needed quality time. However, when you have a little one to think about, traveling abroad isn’t all that simple. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t have an amazing break, it’s just a case of traveling a little closer to home, that’s all. One of the best places in the UK for a family break has to be South West England because of all it has to offer. A popular family destination in the South West is Exmoor. So today, I’m going to be sharing some tips for planning a fantastic family break to Exmoor.
Exmoor National Park is a beautiful area of hilly moorland located in North Devon and West Somerset. The jewel of this beautiful area is known as Porlock. Located at the foot of Porlock Hill, it has the most amazing views of the Bristol Channel and the rolling moorland of Exmoor National Park. The close proximity of Porlock to Exmoor means that, should you choose to, you can easily walk or cycle there. However, Porlock itself has plenty of amenities and things to see and do, so should you want to spend all your time there, you could do.

If the idea of spending time relaxing in the countryside sounds ideal, then it could be the perfect location for a family break. The first thing that you need to do is think about where you would like to stay – Porlock is a great location as it’s so central. Plus, it has plenty of accommodation to choose from. Ideally, as you have a little one in tow, it’s best to steer clear of hotels and guesthouses and opt for a self-catering cottage in Porlock. That way, should your baby cry all night, it won’t be an issue. Plus, by renting a cottage, you’ll have access to your own kitchen, and so, can cook from there, instead of eating out every night. Another major benefit of going self-catered is that it can be much cheaper. Especially if you invite some extended family or close friends along to split the cost.

The great thing about Porlock is that it has plenty of things to see and do within it. As well as having various other sights and attractions close by, dotted around Exmoor. In Porlock itself, there are lots of family-friendly pubs and restaurants, shops, and a playground. As well as a handy tourist information centre. There’s Porlock Weir to visit, then there’s Minehead – just a ten-minute drive away, and Exmoor National Park. There’s also Combe Martin beach, just a short drive away. As well as places like Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre, West Somerset Railway, and Diggerland.
So there you have it, everything that you need to know about planning a family break to Exmoor with a little one in tow. There’s lots of accommodation options and plenty to see and do. So as long as you research the best places to stay, you’re sure to have an amazing time.
