If you hate putting in miles on the treadmill and the thought of a spinning class fills you with dread, switch up your fitness regime by trying out some of these quirky exercise ideas, which will bring the fun back into your active life.

Voga is a new and still quite rare form of exercise, which mixes traditional yoga with Madonna-style ‘vogueing.’ Although you will learn traditional yoga poses, which are great for gentle toning and overall fitness, instead of doing so in a calm, quiet environment, you will be treated to perfect pop playlists, which add more rhythm to the exercises for a better all-over workout.
Trampoline Parks
Trampoline parks are popping up all over the UK and USA and they are proving popular with exercisers of all ages. Trampoline parks usually consist of wall to wall trampolines, where you can either spend your exercise time doing little more than experiencing the joy of bouncing around, or you can participate in fun activities such as trampoline dodgeball and UV-filled after dark trampoline discos. It’s probably one of the most fun ways to get fit.
If you like Zumba, but you want to take things up a notch, Fierce is the activity for you. Inspired by traditional dance in South African the classes combine traditional dance move, with gym-based moves such as squats and lunges, you even do a bit of chanting, which is surprisingly good at getting you in the zone. If you give Fierce your all, it won’t be long before you notice that you’re more toned than ever before.
Hula Hooping
You don’t have to be a little girl to experience the pure joy of hula hooping. You can now purchase adult hula hoops, and there are lots of classes, which will teach you the basics of hula hooping. If you stick with it, you could be twirling as many as 130 hula hoops around your body at the same time! Or, you could just enjoy it for its health benefits.
If you find your usual spinning class to be too boring to bear, but you do get significant benefits from the exercise, you might want to see if there are any Boomcycle classes nearby. These classes combine spinning with really good, really loud music, which takes your mind off the spinning and lets you really enjoy the workout.
Outdoor Gyms
If working in the gym makes you feel cooped up, bored and ready to leave after the first five minutes, you could always try your luck with an outdoor gym. Sort of like an adult playground, outdoor gyms have lots of equipment that will work every muscle in your body, but you get the benefit of fresh air and natural surroundings, which can be enough to keep you going when you start to flag.
Childlike Play
Flying a kite in the local park, playing chase-tag with your kids and racing your friends on the beach – these are all things that will keep you fit without feeling like exercise at all. Who says you have to act like a grown up all the time?
