Spring is almost here! I love being able to put my jumpers away and pull out the sandals and playsuits from my spring/summer collection. While the weather may still be rather frightful outside, I’m already thinking ahead to some of the pieces I’ll be rushing out to by next month. I thought I’d take today’s blog post to share a few of them with you, and hopefully, they’ll give you a little inspiration for your own wardrobe refresh in 2017.
1. The drop-shoulder
I don’t know if you were keeping an eye on the catwalks last year when the top designers announced their collections for spring/summer 2017, but one thing I noticed was that one-shoulders were everywhere. From a simple, dropped shoulder on a gypsy-style blouse or oversized summer dress, to the signature one-shoulder pieces from the popular 80s-inspired collections, I can’t wait to add this style to my wardrobe. I think a one-shoulder cocktail dress with large, statement earrings would make the perfect summer outfit.
2. Shirt dresses
Last year we saw a lot of tuxedo dresses, but for a summer twist, we’re moving on into the shirt style. Finally, it’s acceptable to be completely casual on a summer evening out, but if you want something a little dressier, there are plenty of “power-dressing” style business shirts, again inspired by the retro era, which are perfectly paired with an over-sized blazer. To keep it summery, make sure you stick to soft, pastel tones.
3. Bracelet layers
Layering was a huge trend last year, but on the catwalks for the spring/summer 2017 collections, it was all about the arm detail. Mixing up your typical bracelets by adding different colours, metals, designs and charms means that you can create a statement arm piece that’s completely unique to you. ChloBo's stunning boho jewellery collection is perfect for this, as there’s so much to choose from, and it’s all inspired by freeing individual creativity.
4. Floral jumpsuits
Jumpsuits have always been a popular choice in the spring, but this year you can turn it up a notch with dozens of funky patterns, bold colours and unique necklines. Ditch the standard sweetheart neckline in favour of a one-shoulder to stay on trend, or gathered across the top and over the arms. In particular, it’s the florals that are making this spring stand out; instead of the traditional china-patterns though, look for exotic, tropical prints for a colour injection.
5. The ruffled maxi
Finally, maxis will always be a staple of any girl’s wardrobe during the warmer months, but they’ve been reinvented once again in 2017, with some strategically placed gathering and plenty of ruffles. You can stick with a vintage pattern and matching headdress for a bohemian look at a festival, or go for a ruffled shoulder detail on a sleek, silk dress, to add a touch of glamour to your evening outfit.
Do you have any particular styles in mind for this year? I’d love to hear about them, so why not leave a comment!
