When it comes to your garden, you probably spend a lot of time thinking about what plants to have, the type of furniture that will look good and which ornaments will jazz up the area. The garden fence probably isn’t something you give much thought to. As long as it’s practical and keeps the neighbours out, you’re probably happy! However, there are different types of fencing to go for and just because it’s practical, doesn’t mean that it has to be drab and dull.
The Most Popular Choice
The two most popular types of fence for your home are timber posts with timber fence panels, and concrete posts with timber panelling. Both of these offer good reliability, but it terms of the cost, the former is likely to be the cheapest. Not only this, they offer a nice, gentle feel to your garden and blend nicely into the background. You should always go for quality materials as these will last for the longest. Between 10 and 12 years is a good rough estimate.
Obviously, the stronger of the two choices is concrete. These also have the added benefit of not rotting in the ground. Obviously, the initial cost is higher, but you could find your fence lasting for 18 to 20 years so it’s worth factoring this in when you are doing your calculations. Though you may still need to change your panels, this may work out as the better and more economical choice for you.
A Brighter Fence
While many people go for the classic wooden fence style, you can jazz up your garden a little bit by adding in some brighter colours. It may be worth investing in a paint-spraying device that makes this job a cinch, and gives you a nice, even finish. The beauty of using one of these is that your job can be finished in a matter of minutes. And if you don’t like the results, it’s easy enough to change!
Decorative Metal Screen Fencing
An interesting choice is to add in some decorative metal screen fencing, which can be cut into all different shapes and styles depending on your preferences. Check this out if you are looking for some custom screen fencing. It will probably be the case that you just want one or two panels designed in this style, but it still gives your fencing a completely different look. If you have some fencing at the front of your house, this is the perfect place to add a decorative design.
Add Some Flowers
Your garden fence is the perfect place to add a series of hanging baskets with some colourful flowers. Simply head down to your nearest garden centre and choose a type that you like. You should also be able to find out the best way of looking after them. As well as having them on the fence itself, you could plant a few down at the bottom as well to really add a burst of colour.
