3 Tips to Alleviating Heel Pain

Heel pain is often due to a foot condition called plantar fasciitis where a band of tissue in the sole of the foot becomes inflamed. The pain can be excruciating that the person with plantar fasciitis feels pain when walking, especially when doing exercises and daily activities. This condition is not uncommon as many people, men, and women alike, often experience this. Although the intensity of the pain may cause some people to panic about it, there’s really nothing much to worry about as the pain goes away easily on its own.

The discomfort and pain you feel due to plantar fasciitis can be very troublesome, but there are some simple ways to help ease the pain or make it go away faster. Here are some of the most proven and tested ways to counter heel pain and be able to do normal things without the sting.
1.    Ice and Over-the-Counter Pain Relievers
Ice is a very effective pain soothing agent. The cold helps reduce swelling and inflammation that helps the pain subside.  However, in some cases, an ice pack may not be enough to totally heal your heel, so you need to go and buy some over-the-counter pain relievers to manage the pain. Ibuprofen and acetaminophen are very effective pain relievers, so find one that suits you. However, exercise caution when using pain relievers as chances of overdose is high for people who are in constant pain.
2.    Exercise Your Feet
While trying to move your feet can be very painful, especially those that are very swollen, you need to move them around. Some good foot flexing and stretches can greatly help in easing the pain caused by plantar fasciitis. Learn more about stretching techniques that are easy to do and very effective so you can get the most out of them. As well, rest is equally important for a swollen and inflamed foot. Give it a rest when you feel some pain for a few days and avoid walking on uneven surfaces as it magnifies the pain. Sometimes, this may just be what you need.
3.    Well-Fitted Shoes
Wearing well-fitted shoes are known to help ease heel pain. This helps secure your foot and sole muscles well so they don’t get inflamed. Shoes that are too loose may cause your feet to exert much effort while walking that it ends up straining the muscles. Footwear that is too tight can also contribute to the re-occurrence of plantar fasciitis and intensify the pain. Choose well-fitted shoes made of comfortable materials so your feet take a break from laborious walking.

If heel pain continues to persist for a week or two, you should see your doctor. Therapy or medication may be advised as needed to help you deal with it. There are some prescription medicines that a doctor might prescribe. Never try some weird stuff that may just worsen your condition or do more damage than good to your foot. Follow doctor’s instructions and recommendations and always take good care of your feet.
