Slowly, spring is getting into its rights and that only means longer and warmer days for us to enjoy. Now it’s the perfect time to start planning your new trip, your new adventure and what better place to visit that Europe?
Why Europe, you ask? Well, Europe is full of amazing places, bursts of culture and even if you’ve already visited some places, you’d still have the feeling like you missed something important and you would want to come back.
I think I already know your next question, now tell me if I’m right. Why a road trip and not go by plane? Well, if you like adventure and the full experience plus the freedom to go and see whatever you like, then a road trip would be quite an easy choice.
In order to enjoy your trip to the maximum, you have to plan it thoroughly because you really don’t want to have any unpleasant surprise that might ruin your trip, do you? So here are a few tips that will get you started. Enjoy!
Check your travel documents
First of all, your passport has to be valid for at least 3 months. If you know it’s about to expire I would strongly suggest you apply for a new one asap because usually, this process takes time. Since it is a road trip, you will be driving so you need to have a valid driver’s license.
If renting a car is not an option for you and you want to use your own car, make sure you check it out before you go on such a trip. You can get your car checked at Kwik Fit and let the people there know that you’re planning a big road trip so they double check everything.
Decide when you want to go
A road trip involves a lot of costs, so planning it in advance might reduce those costs significantly. You know best how your budget looks like and you know what you want to do on this trip, but you also have to take in consideration unexpected costs.
The weather is the next important factor that you should consider. Personally, I think the best time to travel is in spring (April, May, June). The prices are not so high then, nature comes to life and you can see magnificent landscapes (flower fields in full bloom in The Netherlands) and you can enjoy the warm weather.
Plan your itinerary
Probably the most exciting part of planning this road trip! Start brainstorming what you would like to see on this Europe road trip and write it on a piece of paper. Would you like more to enjoy the nature and spend time outside, or you want to see museums and art galleries?
It’s also a wise idea to check some travel guides and see what places are worth visiting. Since it is a road trip, you also have the freedom to check out places that probably you wouldn’t have had the possibility to see otherwise.
Find the best route for your Europe road trip itinerary
Once you’ve decided on the destinations you want to visit and where you’re starting and ending your Europe trip, you can determine the best route for your itinerary. Look at a map of Europe to avoid backtracking on your route, that way you won’t waste time and money.
Since this time of the year is perfect for winter sports, it’s never too late to start thinking of a ski holiday. That way you can enjoy the gorgeous scenery and winter sports.
Figure out how many days you want to spend in each location
I know that you want to see as many cities as you can, but don’t forget that you also need to enjoy this trip and not stress over the fact that you can’t see everything in a short period of time. The usual time to spend discovering a larger city like Amsterdam, Barcelona, London is around 3 days, so allow yourself to enjoy every minute of your trip, relax and that way you will have the most amazing road trip ever!
Are you still with me? Good! See, it isn’t that bad! Yes, a road trip to Europe requires some organization from your part, some good planning made ahead, but in the end, it will all be worth it!
